Selecting a Coordinate System

FieldGenius requires that you select a coordinate system (or map projection) that allows conversion of space based GNSS observations to an XY plane. This enables geometric computations and easy interchange of data with CAD software.

The coordinate system you choose is most often determined by your location. The coordinate system browser and gridshift library allows easy selection from the 3600 predefined coordinate systems that are included with FieldGenius. Users have the option of requesting new coordinate systems with the support team or defining a custom coordinate system if required.

NOTE: A variety of North American Coordinate systems require a gridshift file. You will see a prompt about a missing gridshift file if you have selected one of these systems and attempt a measurement. If are in doubt about selecting the correct system contact the support team or your hardware vendor.

Suggested Activity:

Use the Coordinate System Filter and resources on this page to select the coordinate system, or systems, that you will need to use. Contact Support if you suspect you will need a grid shift file or have other questions and they can assist.
